This was the cover of Newsweek on March 16, 1970—the same day 46 female staffers sued the company for gender discrimination. Funny that the woman is a) naked and b) breaking out of the female gender symbol, but still great. The 1970 issue—and what came after it—is the inspiration for this blog.
Ball, Bennett and Ellison are really great in this week’s magazine with a piece on that suit, and what has changed—and what hasn’t—at Newsweek since then. This is particularly strong week in the magazine—the cover story, an investigation into the U.S.-trained Afghan police force done in a partnership with ProPublica, is really great—but if you’re going to read only one piece, make it this one.

Is this a ski slope? Didn’t have luck tracking down the designer for this stamp yet.
